Today's harvest......

Aren't these the cutest little eggplants. They are about the size of a golf ball. The eggplant plant shows signs of many, many more eggplants to come. Plenty of okra still coming from the garden, not enough to fill our tummies, just enough to make us wish for more.

We have spirit..... yes we do!!!!

My darling daughter wants to know why I don't have a picture of her on my blog. Well now I do.

This was the first home JV game of the season. The weather was pretty bad. A dust storm rolled in and the cheerleaders were facing directly towards the oncoming dust. They had to squint their eyes and as they chanted and cheered they got a mouthful of dust.

Hence this very glamorous picture. Do you think my other two kids will have the nerve to ask me to post their pics after they see this pic of their sis? I think not!

Okra? Orca? Who cares... It's good stuff!

This is my first attempt at growing okra. I started from seed very early in the season, probably February or March. For the longest time the plants were just spindling looking things. Late in the summer, when things really got HOT, the plants took off like crazy, and just a few weeks ago started producing okra, yum yum!

Darling daughter continuosly calls these Orca. I don't care what she calls them as long as they are on their way to our tummies. Our favorite way to eat okra?????? well fried of course, what could be tastier than that!
Lessons learned.... grow more plants next year so that I can freeze some okra, and make sure the plants are in a sunnier location.

And the 2008 Football Season Begins

First scrimmage game August 28th. Unfortunately the game didn't last long because of a storm that moved in too close.

Storm rolling in.

I wish I could have caught the amount of lightening in the sky. It was amazing! And scary! And probably not wise to be sitting on metal bleachers with the lightening moving closer.

This little fellow (and his buddies) were eating good in my neighborhood. Needless to say I had to put a stop to that!!

and an ahhhh HECK NO! moment

a gopher mound in my garden! I blasted the heck out of it with water and so far no new signs of the gopher. Thank goodness because they can cause some serious damage.

I would like to say though................ I would love to hire a couple gophers to turn up the soil at the end of my gardening season. They do an incredible job of sifting that dirt.

Mary, Mary Quite Contrary.......................

How does your garden grow? Mine is doing pretty awesome!!

ORANGES

LIMES

LEMONS

EGGPLANT.... I have never grown eggplant before, they are
pretty amazing.

SQUASH

POMEGRANATE

CUCUMBERS....... future sweet pickles.

AND SUNFLOWERS GALORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

O'Odham Tash Parade 2008

My son was in a parade on Saturday. He is the dude in the front corner carrying the red flag.

I enjoy seeing all the bright colors at the parade.

I have no idea what these rainbows signify but several children were carrying them in the parade.

And aren't these young ladies beautiful on their horses.

And more very bright colors.

What can you say about this ....................somebody has to keep the emergency room docs busy.

What would a parade be without a memeber of the Red Hat Society being present.

We were so lucky to have a beautiful clear day. It rained most of the day on Friday. It started out very cold in the morning but luckily warmed up a bit. One lesson learned that day................... hot chocolate is better at Chevron and costs much less than Starbucks.

Our trip to the snow....................

We took a road trip up north a bit last weekend to see if we could find some snow to play in. We didn't find much but we saw some amazing scenery along the way.
A stream along the way.

Picketpost Mountain, south of Superior Arizona.

A one way bridge along the way.
Another stream along the way.
And one final stream along the way.
A beautiful mountain.
The great snow tower competition. Who do you think is the winner?
This looks like it might have been a school. I have a thing for old buildings. I always wish I could go in and look around. Of course that would be after some hunky guy goes in and clears out the spiders and mice.
